Biography
Dr. Beck is working with the Medical College of Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Fire Department, Project Ujima – Children’s Services Society of Wisconsin, and Milwaukee Public Schools to improve interpersonal communication and promote conflict resolution among 6th graders in Milwaukee. She is also responsible for overseeing and supporting the work of Milwaukee-based fellows and students working with the City of Milwaukee Health Department and community organizations from project development to implementation, evaluation and dissemination.
Dr. Beck’s research interests include youth violence and teen dating/sexual violence prevention, and building community capacity to address these concerns. She has multiple years of experience developing, implementing and evaluating community-academic partnerships to address community-identified health concerns including youth bullying, teen dating violence, and poor physical fitness and nutrition.
Dr. Beck earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from the College of St. Benedict, a master’s degree in sociology from Colorado State University, and a doctorate in Urban Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
