Biography

Working closely with the Center’s Director, Associate Directors, and multiple stakeholders, Ms. Salm Ward advances, coordinates and oversees urban population health research at the Center.  She coordinates strategic planning and program staffing and management at the Center.  She also supports the Center’s focus area in Infant and Maternal Health by coordinating communications and supporting local partnerships.

Ms. Salm Ward earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from St. Norbert College, and a Master of Social Work and a Certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where her focus was on families and children.  She is certified as an Advanced Practice Social Worker in the State of Wisconsin, and  is a Certified Clinical Research Coordinator.  Ms. Salm Ward has eleven years experience in addressing social and behavioral issues affecting health, including two years as a family therapist, five years coordinating clinical research, and four years supporting population health research. 

Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Health Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Ms. Salm Ward’s research interests focus on population health issues affecting families and children, specifically, racial disparities in birth outcomes and infant mortality.  Ms. Salm Ward serves on the Milwaukee Fetal and Infant Mortality Review Committee and on the Steering Committee for the Wisconsin Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring Survey (PRAMS).
