Public Participation and Community Engagement in Research: Reports & Recommendations from the NIH Council of Public Representatives Conference Call

This presentation will feature:

Featured presenters will be Syed Ahmed, Professor of Family and Community Medicine and Director of the Center for Healthy Communities at the Medical College of Wisconsin and Ann-Gel Palermo, Chair of the Harlem Community & Academic Partnership; Associate Director of Operations at the Center for Multicultural and Community Affairs at Mount Sinai School of Medicine; and a doctoral student in public health at City University of New York Graduate Center.  On the call, participants will learn about the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Council of Public Representatives (COPR), its Role of the Public in Research Workgroup, and COPR reports and recommendations in these areas:  (1) Definition of public participation and community engagement in research; (2) Peer review criteria for assessing community engagement in research proposals; and (3) Community engagement framework for development of education and training for researchers who want to engage communities in their research.
