This is a CUPH Event.

This presentation will feature:

This call will lay out a process for achieving community-driven systems-level change.  On the call, participants will learn about the steps involved in policy analysis and have an opportunity to describe some of the successes and challenges they are experiencing while working toward policy change.

The featured speaker on the call is Cassandra Ritas, recent founder of the People's Policy Institute, an education and action company that works exclusively with communities and their partners to design and promote healthy, efficient, and equitable policies.  Cassandra is Kennedy School trained policy analyst with more than a decade of experience developing and advocating for community-driven policies.  Her special interests include criminal justice, health, and aging.

As a 2002-2003 CCPH Fellow, Cassandra produced a toolkit for CBPR practitioners engaging in policy change, "Speaking Truth, Creating Power: A Guide to Policy Work for Community-Based Participatory Research Practitioners," that remains one of the only guiding documents for partnerships making this leap (available at http://depts.washington.edu/ccph/pdf_files/ritas.pdf).  The document is currently under revision.  To add your insights, and to see current innovations in thought, visit www.policypeople.org.
