Survey of the Health of Wisconsin (SHOW)

Background

The Survey of the Health of Wisconsin (SHOW) is an observational, prospective study in the State of Wisconsin, modeled after the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) Surveys. SHOW will draw a random and representative sample of residents of Wisconsin for the health survey. SHOW will conduct in-person interviews, take health measurements, and collect biological samples. All of the information and samples will be compiled into a databank for future research.

Goal

To establish an infrastructure for population health research in the State of Wisconsin.

Assessments

SHOW will conduct assessments of:

  • Population health needs
  • Baseline health status and lifestyle information
  • Environmental data
  • Health care access and utilization
  • Biological samples
  • Temporal trends
  • Larger cohort to longitudinally study health outcomes and their determinates

Population

SHOW will randomly select 1,200 households annually cross the State of Wisconsin and recruit adults n those households between 21-74 years old.

Future implications

As a shared resource, SHOW will provide researchers and state officials with population-based data for monitoring health status throughout the state.

Funding source

Wisconsin Partnership Fund for a Healthy Future One of SHOW's two Mobile Examination Centers.  SHOW's five member field teams will travel the state in these units to conduct the survey assessments.  The mobile units supplement SHOW's two survey exam centers;. the headquarters and survey center in Middleton, WI and survey center at the Aurora Sinai Medical Center in downtown Milwaukee, WI.
