Background
The Center Scientist Development Program is one component of the Center for Urban Population Health's Public Health Development Plan funded by the Wisconsin Partnership Fund For a Healthy Future Strategic Initiatives Allocation. The Public Health Development Plan's overall goal is to develop an increased capacity for conducting population health research and education activities to advance the health and well-being of the greater Milwaukee community.
Primary Purpose
To engage UW-Milwaukee researchers in Center-related population health research through significant salary and/or research assistant support. The development of investigators through this program will further the Center for Urban Population Health's long-term goal of attracting a highly-collaborative, multi-disciplinary team of population health scientists.
Current Areas of Research
- Maternal and infant health
- Child and adolescent health risks
- Youth behavioral health risks (substance use, risky sex, violence)
- Aging and chronic health conditions
- Urban residents affected by environmental exposure or infectious disease
- Technology innovations in advancing health data systems
- Social and cultural health determinants
Center Scientist Designation
Investigators receiving support through the Center Scientist Development Program will be designated a Center Scientist during the project period.
A Center Scientist designation provides:
- Program-related research support;
- Opportunity to collaborate with other Center Scientists around population health issues;
- Recognition on the Center's website, annual report, and other communications;
- Receipt of Center communications, including population health grant opportunities, invitations to learning sessions, and other communications;
- Designated work area at the Center; and
- Opportunity to pursue joint/academic appointments.
