Right to Breastfeed Act Signed Into Law

Representative Sandy Pasch (D-Whitefish Bay) applauded Governor Doyle for signing Assembly Bill 57—otherwise known as the Right to Breastfeed Act—into law during a small ceremony on Wednesday. Rep. Pasch and Senator Fred Risser (D-Madison) introduced this legislation which will allow a woman to breastfeed in any public or private place, where she and her child are otherwise authorized to be, without interference.

In her press release, Rep. Pasch mentions data cited by the Center for Urban Population Health regarding Milwaukee’s high infant mortality rates.  Rep. Pasch also invited Trina Salm Ward, representing the Center for Urban Population Health, to witness this important step in supporting a woman’s choice to breastfeed her baby.
