The Survey of the Health of Wisconsin was recently awarded a grant from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute to monitor the effects of economic and policy changes on cardiovascular and respiratory health in Wisconsin communities. The new effort will focus on identification of the causes of health inequalities, particularly differences in access to health care, quality of health care systems, as well as the effects of the current economic crisis.
The study is led by UW Population Health Sciences Professor and SHOW Director, Dr. Javier Nieto. Dr. Loren Galvão, SHOW Associate Director and Associate Director at the Center for Urban Population Health, is one of the Co-Investigators. She will also provide expertise regarding community engagement and dissemination of the study findings to academic and other stakeholder audiences.
The program will also expand partnerships with the Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation, Milwaukee's Center for Urban Population Health and UW's Community Health Connections, the Wisconsin Research and Education Network, and the Collaborative Center for Health Equity.
