The UW Collaborative Center for Health Equity is committed to increasing the number of minority investigators who are successful in both academic appointments and independent funding through NIH and other federal agencies. As part of this ongoing work, the UW CCHE recently announced the Health Equity Leadership Institute which is being offered in partnership with the University of Pittsburgh's Research Center of Excellence on Minority Health Disparities.
The Institute will feature health disparity/health equity research lectures by UW-Madison and University of Pittsburgh faculty and small group sessions designed to provide career guidance to junior investigators. Topics will include establishing and nurturing collaborative inter-disciplinary research teams, tips for mentor selection, manuscript development, and grant writing. Programming will also aim to highlight and promote Wisconsin-specific research resources that support health equity/health disparities-focused investigation.
Applications for the Institute are especially sought from underrepresented minority fellows, junior faculty or post doctorates in health, social and behavioral sciences whose research addresses minority health, health disparities and health equity.
While certain programming is designated for attending Institute Scholars only, several of the larger presentations will be open to University faculty and Center affiliates as well as the general public. A comprehensive schedule of public presentations will be forthcoming soon. Applications are anticipated to be available late March to early April.
