The Center for Urban Health Population congratulates our collaborative partners on their recent Wisconsin Public Health Association awards. Wisconsin in fortunate to have their dedication to finding evidence-based solutions for the public health concerns in Milwaukee and the state. Dr. Geof Swain received the Presidential Citation award for his sustained, outstanding contribution to WPHA. He is Chief Medical Officer for the City of Milwaukee Health Department, Associate Professor at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health, and Center Scientist at the Center for Urban Population Health. Nicole Angresano, Vice President of Community Impact at United Way of Greater Milwaukee, received the Special Achievement of a Public Health Partnership award for the United Way and Health Department’s If Truth Be Told initiative: Addressing Teen Pregnancy, Public Health and the Cycle of Poverty Campaign. The Center conducted a trend analysis to support setting a challenging but realistic goal for teen births and is collaborating with Ms. Angresano on evaluating prevention programs funded through the initiative. M. Kathleen Murphy, Health Services Coordinator for Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS),received the award for Excellence in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. As a strong advocate for improved health services in MPS, the Center collaborated with Ms. Murphy in assessing the health of children in MPS from 2005-2007. Read more about the project.
