On June 2, the Center received the 2009 Milwaukee Health Champion Award from the City of Milwaukee Health Department and the Milwaukee Public Health Fund for "outstanding teamwork towards the reduction of teen births in Milwaukee." The award honored the work of the Center, the Milwaukee Health Department, the United Way of Greater Milwaukee and many other organizations in Setting a Goal for Reducing Teen Pregnancy.
A description of this work has been published in a 2009 article in the Wisconsin Medical Journal. Collaborators included Naoyo Mori, Trina Salm Ward, Jessica Rice, Loren Galvão and Ron Cisler from the Center, Nicole Angresano from United Way, Anna Benton, Eric Gass and Kawanza Newson from the Milwaukee Health Department, and Kathleen Blair.
The Milwaukee Health Champion Award was created to encourage teamwork and leadership for healthy community change through forging partnerships between diverse community agencies, actively involving students as leaders, and improving community health outcomes.
The award was also featured in July issue of the Milwaukee Health Department's The Healthy Times.
