Background
The Midwest AIDS Training & Education Center (MATEC) provides HIV and AIDS training to health care professionals throughout Wisconsin. MATEC-WI is one of seven states in the Midwest region (MI, MN, MO, IL, IN, IA). The AIDS Education and Training Center (AETC) Program supports a national network of centers that conduct clinical HIV education and training programs in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Goal
MATEC's mission is to enhance the capacity of clinicians to provide quality health care services for people living with HIV/AIDS and other related co-morbidities.
Focus
The Wisconsin Site of MATEC (MATEC-WI) is based at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Medicine in Madison, Wisconsin. Its focus is on education and training for health care providers in Wisconsin, with a focus on:
- Physicians
- Nurses
- Advanced Practice Nurses
- Physician Assistants
- Dentists
- Dental health professionals
- Pharmacists
- Other health care professionals
Methods
Education is provided through workshops, lectures, hands-on supervised clinical training, case conferences, and specialty conferences. Medical faculty provide case consultation in person, via telephone, or by e-mail.
Funding Source
The AETC Program is funded through the Ryan White CARE Act and administered by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), HIV/AIDS Bureau, Division of Training and Technical Assistance.

Special Achievements of the Project
Recruitment of full time Outreach Specialist for Milwaukee and Southeastern WI activities. This new position is located at the Center and will share Center responsibilities.
