The Survey of the Health of Wisconsin (SHOW) will be the first statewide survey of its kind to measure information on critical health conditions in Wisconsin. Learn more about SHOW's context in survey research and its potential contributions to the health of state residents. Renowned experts in the field share their experiences in utilizing population health survey data like that which SHOW will collect. Opportunities for utilizing SHOW's data and bio-samples and applying for ancillary studies will be discussed.

About SHOW
The Survey of the Health of Wisconsin (SHOW) will be the first statewide survey of its kind to measure information on critical health conditions in Wisconsin. Findings from SHOW will present a comprehensive picture of the health of Wisconsin residents, helping to identify needs and target resources.
The Survey of the Health of Wisconsin is funded by the Wisconsin Partnership Fund for a Healthy Future and is under the direction of Dr. F. Javier Nieto and his team at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.
SHOW is modeled after the Center for Disease Control's (CDC) national survey (NHANES), which has provided key information about the nation's health for 35 years. With a state focus, SHOW will provide the more detailed information needed to understand the unique health needs of Wisconsin and its communities.
Each year, trained SHOW staff will knock on the doors of randomly selected households throughout the state. SHOW will meet face-to-face and privately with approximately 1,200 Wisconsin residents to evaluate their health. Because the participants in the survey are selected as a representative sample of the state populations, the results of this survey will tell us about the health of all Wisconsin residents.
The Survey of the Health of Wisconsin (SHOW) will use a variety of health assessment methods to capture a broad range of health information not available before about the health of Wisconsin residents. These assessments include: in-person interviews, paper questionnaires, computer-assisted surveys, physical measurements and laboratory tests. By using a broad range of assessment methods, SHOW will be able to study many conditions and health-related characteristics that, to date, have only been measured by self-report. These include conditions like high blood pressure and high cholesterol, and information about nutrition and exercise habits, access to health care, health care utilization and other health related behaviors.
